My wonderful Dear Husband (DH). He was directing the canoe while I took pictures. This was out at Pennyrile State Park during July of 2009.

Energetic Lil’ C climbing up the slide that used to be in our neighborhood (we’re not sure when the play equipment disappeared… it just wasn’t there one day).

Here’s my X-man climbing up the slide at Central Park in my hometown (I almost wrote “our” hometown, but then it occurred to me that he wasn’t born here so I guess his hometown is technically in Michigan).

My children amuse me on a daily basis.
X: “Never trust a bunny. I’ve learned my lesson. You just never trust a bunny.” ~While playing Rayman Raving Rabbids
X whispers: “Oooooh. Unexpected.” ~While playing a card game with DH and myself
C (in a two year old monster voice): “More drink please *growl*”
X: “Oh COME ON! A little help, please!” ~In his room and frustrated with the giant stack of Magic cards he had dropped twice.
C: “Give me hand. Get monster. Come on!” ~When X is playing monster and C is ready for help “beating up” the monster.
C: “You okay? Momma? You okay?” ~When I say “ow” for whatever reason.
X: “Who is the saver of the world? Oh yeah. That’s right. It’s me!” ~After winning a game of Phase 10.
DH: “Wow! This house gets super clean from me just cleaning for an hour.”
Momma Hen: “What?”
DH: “Well, I started putting up my laundry and cleaning for an hour, then you just started going through the house like a Spider Monkey cleaning and organizing everything. I should clean for an hour more often.”
Momma Hen: “I feel like chopped liver.”
DH: “Aww. You’re not chopped liver. You’re filet mignon.”
Momma Hen: “I didn’t fit in with anyone there except you.”
DH: “I didn’t fit in with anyone there other than you. That’s why we’re married.” hahaha.
Momma Hen to X: “Air Five” (Both give air high fives across the room)
X to Momma Hen: “Air Belly bust!” (Both air bump bellies across the room)

All is quiet in the house aside from the sound of the last of any dirty laundry running in the washer, the clicking of DH’s computer mouse as he zones into his guilty pleasure of computer games, and the peckings of this Momma Hen. I can look around the house and find a dozen or more things that I’d still like to tackle, but the Serenity Prayer pops in my head, however comically inappropriate for the moment.
Apparently I’ve had a guilty conscience about my “I’m not a domestic 50′s woman” because today I’ve been all sorts of “domestic.” After writing my last entry I went to the store and got a few things that we needed today, and put off the rest for tomorrow (Momma Monday, is also my weekly shopping day). I clipped about 40 coupons for things that just so happened to be on my list for tomorrows trip to the store, which makes me get all excited. I love saving money! $3 off laundry detergent?! SWEET! SCORE!
Aside from the super exciting experience of clipping coupons on a Sunday afternoon I ended up scrubbing window blinds, dusting the Master Roost, scrubbing the bathroom walls from ceiling to floor, and eventually made my way to cleaning up the toys. I like the feeling of productivity, even if I still secretly watch for the magic cleaning elves to appear.
Lil’ C was full of energy and entertainment today. My chick LOVES to be scared. He came up and asked me to “Grr. Monster?” So we spent a good thirty minutes playing Monster Hide-and-Seek (seems to be becoming a daily routine). I’d hide from him and jump out at just the right moment. DH was laughing so hard watching C jump, hold his hands up in front of his wide-eyed face, and simultaneously scream and giggle. He’d run away and come back to repeat the scene over and over again.
Once he grew tired of that, he climbed into DH’s lap and fell asleep about 10 minutes later. After nap he was ready to play again, only this time it was “Keep Daddy from leaving.” DH needed to go to his shop and put ladders on the cargo van for work tomorrow, but C had other plans for him. DH was going through the “goodbyes” and C played along until DH walked towards the front door. At that point C ran and threw his back against the door then looked up at DH with the sweetest smile and said, “No! No go outside!” This developed into a big game that lasted for thirty minutes and ended with DH giving up on leaving and retreating to C’s bedroom to play Ninja Turtles for the following thirty minutes.
As soon as brother got home DH was free to leave, and X took all of C’s attention.
A cherry cheesecake is calling my attention away from my writing for the night. I’m just rambling away anyway. Tune in tomorrow for Momma Monday!

I’ve been seriously thinking a lot lately about things pertaining to my children. I’ve come to some realizations along the way.
Every parent knows the scenario: you’re in the middle of doing something when one of your yahoos comes up and insists that they require your attention. How many parents brush the kiddo off with a “in a minute” or “not right now” or any variation thereof? I know I’ve been guilty. I’ve seen other parents be guilty of the same. I think it’s just something we do without really thinking about.
My new goal lately has become: Stop what I’m doing and respond. Why? Because how many times is whatever I’m doing really something that can wait? And aren’t we supposed to be there for our kids? I don’t mean to give them EVERYTHING they want. I don’t mean to not encourage some patience.
What I’ve noticed since I started putting a lot of effort into this: I have more fun! That’s right, not only are the kids having more fun, but I am having more fun. Our house isn’t staying as clean, but it’s certainly not disgusting. The kids are getting more attention they need aside from “Stop fighting!” “No more yelling!” “Quit running through the house!” Actually, there’s a lot more running through the house, but that’s okay… because I’m running with them.
If you’ve never played “Monster-Hide-and-Seek” I strongly suggest you try it with your kids… you know, so long as they are cool with monsters and all.
How do you play? Well, the kids want YOU to hide, so you do… as well as you possibly can. Then, when you hear them nearby looking for you, you jump out and growl like a monster and chase them through the house.
Caution: Laughter may fill your home.
